Navi and other Fairies (Legend of Zelda) – Amigurumi #18

Clara the Jellyfish was well received. It seems another one of Shoonie’s friends saw the jelly and decided she wanted a Navi plush. And well, I aim to please.

Ugh, I hated these wings. I charged less since Navi didn’t require special felting or details. She also turned out a bit bigger than I anticipated. Once I shrunk the pattern down, she became as wide as the jellyfish was tall. For $10, I think that sounds like a reasonable size… Also, Shoonie is now my PR representative. 😀

Of course, I couldn’t make Navi without also making Tatl and Tael. You know, it wasn’t until years later that I realized…

Tael doesn’t look right, because my phone thinks dark purple is blue for some reason. Or is Tael really blue, and we just think he’s purple? Is the dress blue and—-*BANG* NO! NO MORE OF THIS DRESS! TAEL IS PURPLE!!!

…ahem.

Tatl and Tael are looking out my window, planning to knock you off your horse.

The 3D remake of Majora’s Mask was released this month. I already have the original on collectors edition. Wot wot. I’ve always played Majora’s Mask in a very orderly fashion. So when I tried to watch an LP of it, I got annoyed with how the guy kept missing all the stuff that was RIGHT THERE. I also had a habit of resetting the clock and trying to clear all the sidequests again before going to the final battle, only to forget x,y,z. Ah, video game OCD, y u do dis? This is why I couldn’t do speedruns.

Of course, I’ll also be making a pink bottle fairy. These will be available on Etsy as of next week.

That’s all for this week. Not sure what to make for next week… I really just want to put these fairies on Etsy.

What other coloured fairies have I missed, that you’d like to see? Have you played the original release Majora’s Mask? Comment below!

Charmander – Amigurumi #17

Guys.

GUYS.

It’s finally finished.

char-display

tailAs you may recall from an old post, I was struggling to get Charmander just right. The tail was giving a ton of grief because I was trying to make it a single piece with the body. I gave up making everything as one piece. Instead, I made the head and body together, and sewed the tail. This was much easier, and hey; Squirtle was made in a similar way. As for the tail, well… I got lazy. Peck Peck suggested I use coloured fluff. (Stuffing) The problem is that the stuffing is very wispy and made of tiny little fibres that get everywhere if not handled properly. Though this does give me an idea for a sheep plushie…

churrWhen I was a wee little Pichu, there was a girl in my class called Anjy. For reasons I no longer remember, whenever I saw her I would go, “Kitty!!!” and flip her hair. (This was long before I met Torchic’s owner Kitty) She also used to make really good Squirtle impressions, and she owned a Charmander doll named Twizzler. Fast forward a few years later to high school, when Jarhead and I got bored in Law class one day. We were doodling, and she said she wished she could draw Charmander because it was one of her favourites. So I drew a derpy Charmander. It looked like this:

Squirtle now has a little companion. And of course Bulbasaur will be added to the mix. Peck Peck called me a genwunner (Gen One-er) but that’s not true; I like gen 2, as well. -_-; Everybody seems to like Charmander the best. Am I the only one who liked Bulbasaur? Hm, I’ll save that mini rant for the Bulbasaur post.

IMG_20150221_161403781

If Anjy is reading this… Hi Kitty. 😀 *flips your hair* I wonder if she still has Twizzler? I would laugh so hard if one day, Jarhead dressed her little girl as a Charmander. XP

Speaking of kitties, Kitty Kitty is now engaged to a Bear with red hair. That rhyme was unintentional, but she does have red hair. So in other words, he turned on his charmander pants came off. Heh? HEH?! 😀

*wind blows the tumbleweed*

I know, another short post, but I have a good reason: I spent all of reading week playing The Last of Us. And let me say, it’s just as feel-ful as you may have heard. Clickers suck, though. Now I’m going back to play a bit more, so I’ll leave you with this contemplative Charmander. And yes, this is the current view from my window. Winter: Canadian youths’ #1 excuse to stay in and play video games. Don’t worry, Charmander’s tail will keep it warm.

10 Things To Do on February 14th instead of being a Derpy Downer

You can Google search “why being single” and get laundry lists of reasons why it sucks/doesn’t suck. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s, Singles’ Awareness, Forever Alone, Friends’, or just Saturday, let this post be my present to you.

I prefer to celebrate Friends’ Week: Friends week occurs the week of February 14. Throughout the week, you take time to do fun things with your friends. If February 14 occurs on a Wednesday, it becomes Friends’ Day. It’s not very significant, it’s just  fun thing to point out.

February is a stressful month, what with assignments due here, midterms starting there, and new semesters in full swing errwhurr. Maybe you’re a fellow Forever Alone, and are tired of hearing “you don’t need a boyfriend/girlfriend,” or “you’re so lucky, I wish I was single.” (I’ve heard the latter too often…) And don’t you hate when the weather man says it’s going to be chilly outside, but it never happens and you’re left hungry all day?! That joke would’ve worked better spoken instead of written… See? The struggle is real!

So what can you do on Friends’ Day? Whether you’ve got a valentine or not, got friends or not, or got a quart of alcohol or not, here are my 10 things to do instead of sitting around moping about not having a Valentine. Right after this obligatory Archer reference, in response to saying “quart of alcohol:”

fawty-shawty

“A quart? This’s a fawty, shawty!”

1. Do something with your friends, that you don’t normally do. Get together and order Chinese food. Go bowling. Get pizza making kits and make the pizza the way you really want. If you’re of legal drinking age, rent some hilariously bad movies and play their respective drinking games. I recommend The Room by Tommy Wiseau. You know, “YOU’RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!” (***Important Note: Although the legal drinking age in Canada is 19, Val does not recommend this game to anyone under 21. Please read the rules and play responsibly!)

2. Make yourself a special snack. Take boring, storebought cakes and turn them into strawberry shortcakes. If you would rather make them from scratch, take a look at this video.

nomnomnom

3. Make naughty jokes as you make said snack. Here’s one: “decorating  cake is a lot like sex: bigger isn’t always better.”

4. Bet you knew this one was coming…Cuddle up with plushies! Hugs not only feel good, but they are good for you! You receive the same benefits from hugging a plushie, as you get from hugging a person. If hugs don’t make you happy, you can just put on Pharrell’s Happy for the umpteenth time.

IMG_20150119_1129029505. Hug a puppy. I think people would be happier if they just took a second every morning to hug a puppy. The local animal shelter brought some cute doggies to visit our school a few weeks back. We also got free snacks and massages.

This one is called Edgar. He’s a doxie, one of my favourite types of doggies. When Abby the big rottweiler came, he started barking. Later I was carrying him, and when Abby walked by to drink water, Edgar went “grrrr….” I sang him a song called, “I’m so Edgar” by Doggy Azalea, and I think that calmed him down. There were 5 dogs in total. Here are two of the other dogs: Finnegan the Yorkie (aka Finn the Dog) and Abby the Rottweiler. Abby was very lovable; she kept going around to everyone and demanding love. She was shedding like crazy, too.

So doge. Such day. Wow.

So doge. Such day. Wow.

6. Have a nice shower or bubble bath. For those of us who spend the weeks waking up at 6 am, standing in crowded public transit, sitting in traffic, pulling all nighters, hunched over a laptop… you get it. There’s nothing like a nice, relaxing bath after a long week.

7. Exfoliate and shave your legs. It doesn’t matter if no one else will see it, just do it for you. If you get dry skin in the winter, use shaving cream and follow up with a good body lotion. Don’t forget to thank your leg hair for keeping you warm all this time!

8. Get a wax, just because. This one is more for the older readers out there. *cough cough* I had my first professional wax this week, and I can safely say that as long as you go in prepared and use proper aftercare, it’s not that bad. Remember to have a warm shower and exfoliate before going in, and wear loose fitting clothes.

9. Holla holla get $. If you’re currently feeling down about being single on Valentine’s day, think of it this way: now you have more money to spoil yourself! You don’t have to worry about buying someone an expensive gift, or receiving a gift you don’t like. And think of all the discount candy when Valentine’s Day is over! If you don’t have money, now is the time to put in extra hours at your job, or to start a new job. In my case, this is the peak season for people buying cute things for their sweethearts. Yeeh son.

10. Be silly. This one should come natural.

Clara (Princess Jellyfish) WIP – Amigurumi #16

Meet Clara. She’s a jellyfish from the anime Kuragehime. (Princess Jellyfish) Ain’t she sweet? Clara is about 4″ tall, making her approximately the same size as Squirtle. This was a request from real life Shoonie’s friend. She still needs her face and spots, so I just drew them on for now. She is about 4″ tall, which is about the same height as Squirtle.

derpy

I hadn’t heard of Kuragehime until the request. And with classes in full swing, don’t know if I’ll get a chance to sit down and watch a lot of it. From what I’ve gathered in my research, Clara is the pet jellyfish of the main character. It sure fulfils the stereotypes of a shoujo anime. I’ve managed to identify three: you have the cute animal mascot, (Clara) the crossdressing/androgynous guy (Kurako) and that one psycho bish who is not above making false accusations to get what she wants. (Shoko) Of course that doesn’t mean I won’t give it a try; heck, my favourite shoujo animes of all time fulfil these stereotypes. You have to consider that stereotypes exist for a reason, and in this case, the stereotypes work. I could sit here and rant, but then it will turn into Val Writes, instead of Val’s Crafts.

squirt_jelly

Making this plushie made me realize how fast time is flying by. This plushie is meant for my 15 year old cousin’s 15 year old friend. And then I read some of the stuff about Princess Jellyfish and thought, “…are they really old enough for this?” Then I realised, “…yes, they are old enough. Shoony is old enough. ;w; ” It’s a bit surreal to realise that you baby cousins and siblings are not babies anymore. As it is, real life Peck Peck used to be the tiniest kid in his class, and now he’s taller than me. ( ; w ; )

Squirtle, squirt? (“Where is your face?”)

In Canada, we have Family Day. It’s a pretty pointless holiday, but a day off is always appreciated. My school counts it as the first day of Reading Week, hence it’s an even more pointless holiday for us Uni kids. ;w; Worse things have happened during reading week, of course. Reading week 2013 was the week of the Harlem Shake. Yeah.

Know what jellyfish do remind me of? Spongebob. The 3D movie is out, and it actually looks passable, unlike those GameCube games that came out once upon a time. *shudder* Hm… This gives me an idea for next week. Oops, better not spoil. Sorry Shoony, no details yet. 😀

On an unrelated note. Clara can also be used as… a hat.

clara-metroid

Clara: The Cutest Little Metroid

If Shoony’s friend is reading this… Hi Andrea. “Shoony” is the best cousin ever. She smells like good things, like chocolate and gingerbread and penguins. She is most certainly not high on sugar. I think. If she is, you have my permission to take away her shoons. 😀

What are you doing for family day? Do you like jellyfish? Comment below!
